Hey guys, I've been thinking about getting a GoPro and the ones that fit my budget are the Hero and the Hero 3 thing is, I've been wanting to get the Hero because it's well within my budget and the quality of both video and photo looks I looked at the Hero 3 White and was quite surprised that it's actually in my budget range (but is pushing it). Looks pretty good, camera can be taken out of the housing, batteries can be changed and the quality isn't too bad torn between the two because on one hand, the Hero has very good FOV at 1080p while the H3W has a narrow one. On the other hand, the H3W has a bit of modularity to it. You can swap housings and stuff like that, something that the Hero cannot do. If I break the mount point at the bottom of the Hero, I will have to get another one whereas this is not the case with the looks a bit better with the Hero too, especially on low light however, it's not as customizable as the H3W. (AFAIK)The H3W has WiFi connectivity which means I could use my phone as a screen to see what I'm recording, something that isn't available with the standard I would love to have your input. Help me decide which one I'm going to buy cause I have no idea whatsoever. Also, it might pay to say that this would be my first gopro camera so there's that.

Oct 03, 2022. Hello, and welcome to the ultimate guide to HERO11 Black. We’ve got new features, new settings and, most importantly, an all-new image sensor to unpack! So you're thinking about a GoPro HERO3 but you already have a HERO2? We've seen some full 4K samples of the new GoPro HERO3 Black Edition, now we've got not only a comparison between the new and old cameras from Jeff Foster at ProVideo Coalition, but some samples of the brand new mode thanks to Jared Abrams at Wide Open Camera. Click through to check out the comparison and some behind the scenes from Jared's motorcycle shoot. Video is no longer available: Here are some comparison screen grabs from the HERO2 and HERO3, both videos were shot at 1080p: Some low-light samples: One thing is clear, it looks like low-light has been improved tremendously. This is a big deal for anyone who has used these cameras before, because traditionally the GoPros haven't been very good in lower light thanks to their smallers sensors. It's tough to tell how much dynamic range has been improved since the profile is so flat, but it does look like it is slightly better on the new HERO3. Jared Abrams has posted a new test showing off the mode of the HERO3, which is going to be far more useful since it can shoot a full frame rate. This motorcycle parts were shot in at 24fps: Video is no longer available: Here is what Jared said about using the GoPro: The Hero 3 lets you manually adjust white balance. We shot this at 5500K. The auto exposure also held up very well. I only slightly tweaked the exposure in the final video. The micro SD’s are a little annoying. I got a little over two hours with a 32GB micro SD. The in camera battery does not last very long. I would say maybe an hour tops. We had two in camera batteries and one new Bac Pac style battery and they all barely lasted a ten hour day with charges in-between locations. We had to use the older LCD Bac Pac to line up shots and that helped drain the batts, hopefully with the new iPhone update they will last a little longer. I'm really liking what I've seen so far from the HERO3, and it definitely looks like a major improvement from the previous camera. The new frame modes, especially are extremely useful for stabilizing a shot, even though the HERO3 does have onboard stabilization. If you want to check out some samples of the mode of the HERO3, head on over to Wide Open Camera. To read the rest of the hands-on from ProVideo Coalition, check out Jeff Foster's review. What do you guys think of the HERO3 so far? Have you already purchased one, and if not, does any of the above samples have you leaning towards getting one? ciupa / Pixabay The market leading camera company GoPro has recently updated its lineup of actioncams with a new Hero4 model. This new device includes improved 4K video recording and an exceptional touchscreen. But how does it compare with the previous iteration in the GoPro Hero series? Here is a rundown of some of the key features in this camera. GoPro Hero4 vs GoPro Hero3 Old West Outperforms, Buys Undervalued Lockheed MartinOld West Investment Management's All Cap investment portfolio slumped for the year to the end of June, outperforming the S&P 500's loss of 21% and the Nasdaq's decline of 30% over the same period. Writing in the firm's first-half investor update, Joseph Boskovich, Sr. Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Old West, notes that Read More Dimensions There isn’t a huge amount of difference between the two iterations of this device in terms of size. In fact, the dimensions of the devices when not covered by protective housing are both equal to 41 x 59 x 30 mm. Weight The latest iteration in the GoPro Hero range is slightly heavier than its predecessors. However, if you were engaging in an active pursuit such as surfing or skiing, you’ll be extremely unlikely to notice any significant difference between the two. 4K recording This is the first area in which there is a serious divergence between the GoPro Hero4 and the previous iteration in the series. The latest camera is capable of shooting 4K video at twice the frame rate of any other 4K capable camera on the market. GoPro has made 4K video recording a significant focus of its newest device, and it produces outstanding results and fantastic frame rates. HD recording The new GoPro Hero4 shoots 1080p video at frame rates of up to 120 fps. This is superior to the previous model in the series, and it in fact makes it the market leader in this department, as no other current actioncam can match this capability. Slow-motion recording The latest version of the GoPro Hero series enables some extreme slow-motion recording to be captured. The GoPro Hero4 is capable of recording 120 fps footage at 1080p in slow-motion, ensuring that it provides better slow-motion recording than any other actioncam on the market. High video bitrate Bitrates are particularly important for those who require the best standard of video recording possible. The latest version of the GoPro Hero series is offering higher bitrate video recording than the previous iteration in the series, being capable of 60 Mb/s. Audio The microphones which have been included in the latest GoPro Hero4 device deliver an incredible dynamic range, which is nearly double that of the previous model in the GoPro Hero series. Stills Again, the latest version of the GoPro Hero schools extremely well in this department, with the GoPro Hero4 capable of shooting stills at 30 fps. This is three times the level of the previous device in the series, which was capable of a mere 10 fps. Superview The GoPro Hero4 is the first actioncam in the range to be able to shoot 4K or Superview footage. This immersive feature which creates a superior wide angle perspective is ideal for professionals in particular. Protune functionality GoPro has ensured that the latest GoPro Hero4 camera has the capability to utilize Protune when it is shooting in either its still or video mode. This contrasts with the GoPro Hero3, which is only able to use this function when video is being filmed. LCD touchscreen Another innovation included in the GoPro Hero4 is the inclusion of a built-in touchscreen. This is the first time that a camera in the GoPro Hero range has included this feature. Wireless connectivity Bluetooth connectivity has been a real priority for the new device in the GoPro Hero range, and this now supplements the Wi-Fi capability that was included in previous devices. The GoPro Hero three was not capable of working with Bluetooth. Battery One slight niggle about the GoPro Hero camera is that the weak battery life of the GoPro Hero3 has been repeated. According to estimates provided by the company, if you are shooting 4K 30fps video on the Hero4, then approximately 65 minutes of shooting will be possible before the battery needs to be renewed. This is identical to the parameters of the previous device in the series, and will be disappointing to some critics who have suggested that the paltry battery life is a weakness of the actioncam. Price Although the GoPro Hero4 significantly improves on its predecessor in numerous areas, it does it at a premium in terms of price. This new actioncam costs around $100 more than the previous camera in the series retailed for when it was released a year ago. Additionally, the optional Smart Remote will cost an extra $80 to purchase should you wish to take advantage of it. Verdict The GoPro Hero4 is a significant step forward over previous devices in the series, and the only real reason not to purchase it would be if one considers the price tag to be prohibitively expensive. Technology ciupa / Pixabay GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO)’s latest action camera Hero4 is a sweet treat for adventure junkies. The company said at its third-quarter earnings call that initial sales of Hero4 Black as well as Silver Edition have been very strong. The new actioncams have many new features such as an improved 4K video recording. Let’s compare the high-end Hero4 Black Edition with the the company’s previous flagship Hero3+ Black Edition. 1- Dimensions & weight GoPro hasn’t changed the shape and size of its cameras in the past few years. Both Hero4 and Hero3+ come with 41x59x30 mm dimensions. They both are compatible with the same cases. GoPro Hero4 Silver Edition, which has a touchscreen display, comes with the touchscreen-friendly Touch Backdoor. The Hero4 is slightly bulkier at 88g compared to 74g for the Hero3+. But the Hero4 stands out by shooting at double the frame rate (30 fps compared to 15 fps for Hero3+) than its predecessor. It also shoots better footage, thanks to its 50 fps frame rate. In terms of HD recording, Hero4 stands out once again. It can record at frame rates of up to 120 fps at 1080p, compared to just 60 fps for Hero3+. 4- High bitrate A higher bitrate means better video quality. Hero4 has a high bitrate ( of 60mb/s, better than 45mb/s for the Hero3+. 5- Protune Protune allows users to record higher quality videos with less compression. With Hero4, protune can be used for videos as well as photos. But its predecessor has only WiFi connectivity. Anyway, both cameras are compatible with GoPro App and Smart Remote. 7- storage All GoPro cameras use microSD cards with storage capacity of up to 64GB. They require a UHS-1 or Class 10 rating. 8- Battery Battery is one very important thing for action camera fans. In terms of battery, the Hero3+ seems to have an edge. It comes with 1180mAh battery compared to 1160mAh for Hero4. Though the difference in battery capacity appears to be small, power-hungry Hero4 saps battery much faster. 9- Hero4 vs Hero3+: price GoPro has priced its Hero4 Black Edition at $ much higher than $ for Hero3+. Updated model goes head to head with predecessor Published: October 15, 2013 at 10:00 am The release of the latest HERO 3+ Black Edition from GoPro will already have a lot of people reaching for their wallets, but BikeRadar ask is it worth spending the extra cash for the new GoPro over the now discounted previous generation HERO 3 camera? Claimed improvements for the new model are impressive, such as the lens, which is said to be 33 percent sharper, the battery that’s supposed to last 30 percent longer, and WiFi performance, which is four times faster than the GoPro 3. As the market leader in this sector, we pitched the new GoPro HERO 3+ head to head against its biggest competitor – which just so happens to be its predecessor, the GoPro HERO 3 Black edition. We rigged up the two cameras to a mountain bike using Go BIG bar mounts from K-Edge. We then sessioned various local trail sections to test the two cameras in a head-to-head comparison. The footage was recorded at varied frame rates (FPS) and dimensions simultaneously on both cameras to test the capabilities of each device. You can check out our findings in the video below – be sure to watch in 1,080p for the most accurate comparison. Keep your eyes peeled for a full BikeRadar review in the near future. If you like taking selfies or vlogging, then this GoPro is a game changer. The build quality of the body is also quite rugged. The Hero 9 Black comes with a built-in mount. This is great because you no longer have to unmount the action cam to change the battery or memory Hero 9 Black is also the first GoPro camera that can shoot 5K at 30 frames per second. There are some enhancements via the Hypersmooth which makes for smoother footage with the Hero 9 Black. There is also a new Time Warp feature that can speed up long timelapses and a Horizon levelling option as well. Lastly, there are new mods like ultra-wide, max lens, light mod, and display Is Best Overall? It’s clear that the Hero 6 Black is the most powerful overall. It can record the best video footage (which is a GoPro’s primary function), so we can’t help but rank it at the top. It also includes a range of other convenient features such as a touch screen and voice control. Of course, it does have the steepest price tag. The Hero 9 Black looks great for vlogging and can be the best option if you have a budget of $ Is The Best Value For Money? We reckon the Hero 5 Black is the best value for money. It is only $230 and has the second-best camera for recording video. It also has a touchscreen, voice control, and is just an all-around powerful machine. If you can’t quite afford the Hero 6 Black then just get the next best thing at around half the Factors To ConsiderIf portability is essential to you, then you may want to consider the Hero 4 Session or Hero 5 Session. They are noticeably more compact than the other models and can slide in and out of your pocket with ease. And if you happen to drop them into a pool of water they will you’re a diver then the Hero 5 Black and Hero 6 Black are still your best options. Just make sure you invest in an underwater housing system that can handle the pressure.
I have a Samsung Galaxy A40, Android 11, GoPro Quik 11.13 and a Hero 3+ firmware 3.03. I have reset the password (defaults to "goprohero"). I can connect the GoPro to my phone with Wifi without issues.
Back when GoPro announced the new GoPro Hero 3+ model many were left wondering if the upgrades made to the camera were really worth upgrading from a Hero 3. The new Hero 3+ Black Edition boasted a smaller size, better Wifi, Better Battery Life, a New Lens, and several other features – but nothing that really jumped out at you as *THE* feature that makes it worth a $70 upgrade. The guys over at Rhino Camera Gear just released a new comparison video on YouTube where they took both cameras out side by side to really test them and see if the improvements made in the 3+ are really all that noticeable. Check it out below: So, what did you think? Personally I thought the footage from the GoPro Hero 3+ Black looked better, had better sharpness and was overall much more pleasing to my eyes. That is not to say the original GoPro Hero 3 Black looked bad, but in comparison I think it is safe to say that the Hero 3+ Black Edition is definitely an improvement. The Wifi performance on the new Hero 3+, while not quite as good as GoPro claimed, was still much much better than the old Hero 3 wifi. So if that is a feature that is important to you then the new GoPro Hero 3+ would definitely make a good purchase in my mind. Now is it worth an upgrade if you already have the GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition? That is up for you to decide, personally I don’t think its worth running out to upgrade unless one of the improvements is something that you feel like you absolutely must have. Is the new GoPro Hero 3+ better? Yes, clearly. Is it so much better than the Hero 3 that the Hero 3 is no longer worth using? No, not in my opinion. What are your thoughts? Did you find the footage from the GoPro Hero 3+ better like I did? What are your thoughts on it being worth an upgrade? Let us know in a comment below. [via DIY Photography]
The GoPro HERO 3: Black Edition also ships with a Wi-Fi remote that can control up to 50 cameras simultaneously . From there we go into more exotic high-definition sizes of 1440p, 2.7K, 4K and 4K
Firstly, I apologize in advance because I know there are a lot of questions like a gopro for my SO for Christmas. Been really struggling deciding on a few things. Obviously session is appealing in price, it's waterproof, smaller, etc. however I'd be willing to spend about $300 for something that may be higher quality. I know the bitrate is lower for the session and some people have complained about the video quality not being as great as the more expensive friend who knows a bit about gopros suggested looking for a hero3 black edition, as it may be somewhat less expensive since it's been out for a while, and I guess the quality is considered better than the terms of what we plan to use it for- we've been doing a lot of traveling lately so mainly want it for hiking, perhaps biking..nothing too crazy "extreme sports" type of things. Mostly like the idea of having it for water activities (swimming, waterfalls, snorkeling, etc) and having a quick and easy way to record some of our trips, do timelapses maybe. Our next trip is Iceland in so much in advance!
I'm in a similar boat as far as what to look for. However, one thing you can definitely see is the wide angle lens on the GoPro. As a result, there is just a hint of glare noticeable in the center left side of the gopro shot. There is some pink spots that don't show up on the cannon. I'm pretty sure that is a result of the lens at least
With the arrival of the entry-level ‘Hero’ camera, there are now four options when it comes to choosing a GoPro camera. If price is your primary concern, you’ll certainly be looking at the Hero ($199). However, the next model up in the range, the Hero5 Black($299), provides many significant extra features which make it worth saving up the extra cash. Let’s take a look at the differences between the GoPro Hero and the GoPro Hero5 Black. RELATED ARTICLES GoPro Hero Vs Hero6 Black: What's The Difference? GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Session: What’s the Difference? GoPro Hero6 Black Vs Fusion: What's The Difference? GoPro Hero5 Black Vs Hero5 Session: What's The Difference? GoPro Hero6 Black Vs Hero5 Black: What's The Difference? GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Introducing the GoPro Hero Currently the newest model in the range, the Hero is aimed at those wanting to dip their toes into the world of GoPro with the minimum financial outlay. With looks virtually identical to its more expensive stablemates, it’s also the least expensive way to buy a real GoPro as a gift without it looking like an obviously cheaper model. It’s not for everyone, however, as there are many important features missing which set it apart from all of the other GoPros in the current range including its closest relative, the Hero5 Black. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Overview GoPro Hero advantages: Reduced complexity, Price! GoPro Hero5 Black advantages: 4K video, higher resolution sensor, high frame rates, Protune, Night Photo, Looping Video, Night Lapse Photo, GPS, HDR Photo Capture, external mic input, Karma drone compatible, raw photo capture, raw audio capture. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Price The Hero is available direct from GoPro at a price of $199, replacing the smaller GoPro Hero5 Session which used to sit at this price point (see here for the differences). The Hero5 Black costs an extra $100 at $299, placing it midway between the Hero and the flagship Hero6 Black in price but much closer to the latter in performance and features. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Design & Dimensions Externally, there’s little to differentiate the two cameras, save for labelling and minor cosmetic differences. They also both weigh the same. GoPro Hero and GoPro Hero5 Black x x 33mm ( x x in) , 117g GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Battery Both camera models include the same removable 1220mAh lithium-ion battery, which could come in handy if you want to share batteries between GoPros of different types. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Key Functional Differences The GoPro Hero is fitted with a 10-megapixel image sensor where the Hero5 Black comes with a higher-resolution 12-megapixel version. This means the Hero5 Black is capable of taking higher-resolution still images than the Hero. Likewise, the Hero has a severely limited video resolution (see below). Additionally, the Hero5 Black includes a GPS function, lacking on the Hero, which enables location tagging of recorded media. It’s also vastly more configurable than the Hero in both photo and video modes, which enables higher-quality image capture and delivers output more suitable for professional editing software. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Video Specifications Perhaps the most obvious limitation of the Hero is that it’s restricted to 1440p resolution when shooting video. The Hero5 Black, and all other GoPro models in the range can shoot in resolutions all the way up to and including 4K, or beyond in the case of the GoPro Fusion. The Hero is capable of smooth 60fps capture at 1080p, which also allows for half-speed slow motion when played back at 30fps. The Hero5 Black, however, doubles this performance with capture speeds up to 120fps at 1080p. It also offers a large selection of alternative frame rates, including the ‘cinematic’ 24fps mode and several others in-between. The Hero lets you choose only 60fps or 30fps. At 1080p, the Hero enables ‘Wide’, ‘Medium’ and ‘Narrow’ shooting modes, whereas the Hero5 Black also provides ‘SuperView’ and ‘Linear’ modes for greater flexibility. SuperView enables the Hero5 Black to capture more of what’s going on around it while producing a slight ‘fisheye’ effect. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Audio Both cameras come with a trio of microphones and capture stereo audio, but the Hero5 Black is capable of capturing higher-quality, uncompressed audio in the .WAV format and can accept external microphones via a adapter. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Photo Specifications As mentioned earlier, the Hero comes with a lower-resolution image sensor than the Hero5 Black, so still images are less detailed. The Hero5 Black is also capable of capturing at various speeds up to 30 shots per second in burst mode, whereas the Hero is limited to exactly ten. It’s a similar situation when it comes to capturing time lapses: The Hero5 Black can snap at configurable intervals between seconds and 60 seconds, whereas the Hero is fixed at seconds. Plus, the Hero5 has dedicated ‘Night Photo’ and ‘Night Lapse Photo’ modes, not present on the Hero. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Protune When compared to every other current GoPro camera, the Hero is by far the most simplified and, as such, omits the majority of detailed configuration options found in other models. Most significant is the lack of ‘Protune’ mode. Protune enables a range of functions providing the advanced and manual controls you’d expect to find on a professional camera, including exposure control and raw capture modes. Without Protune, the Hero is more of a point-and-shoot option suited to beginners or those who don’t want to deal with a large array of possibly confusing settings. GoPro Hero Vs GoPro Hero5 Black: Conclusion Despite external appearances, the Hero and Hero5 Black are very different products. The Hero is a limited and much simplified entry-level device, whereas the Hero5 Black is a former flagship product with all the bells and whistles a professional user might expect. If you’re looking for a fun, rugged and waterproof camera to take on vacation, then both would fit the bill. But, the Hero5 Black will deliver superior quality and create output that’s easier to edit in desktop software, especially if you want to combine its output with other video sources at various frame rates. Despite the extra cost, the Hero5 Black makes much more sense for enthusiasts and is well worth the extra money for anyone who might want to go beyond the basics. The Hero, on the other hand, is a welcome addition to the range for those who prefer to stick to automatic settings and aren’t fussed about high-end features such as 4K or slow motion. Full specifications of all current GoPro models are available at the GoPro Shop.

Hero3 takes much better stills- they are wider and have better clarity. As such GoPro is not good enough (compared to DSLR) in capturing colours and light. SJ4000 is a bit worse. But in full day light, difference in photo quality is hard to notice. While GoPro stills cost about 5MB at highest confguration, SJ4000 stills take 1-2MB.
When comparing the GoPro Hero 3 vs 4, you’re considering two of the better GoPro camcorders in the market. Both of these devices are lightweight, waterproof, and offer a variety of features. Each also provides a level of professional quality seldom seen in the personal camcorder industry. There are a few differences between the GoPro Hero 3 vs 4, but which one offers the best bang for your buck? The GoPro Hero 3 is a small but durable camcorder and camera. It will work in the harshest of weather conditions, while still providing high-quality footage. GoPro camcorders have become the standard in the industry, and the GoPro Hero 3 is no different. Buy on Amazon Let’s take a look at some of the things that make this camcorder one of the best in its arena. Design The GoPro Hero 3 features nearly every feature that has made the GoPro a household name throughout the past decade. Checking in at x x the Hero 3 is compact. The device weighs a mere oz and can be attached to pretty much anything without concern about causing any damage. With its small size, many think the Hero 3 doesn’t provide quality images and videos, but that’s far from the case. Professional cinematographers and photographers don’t hesitate to make use of this tiny camcorder. Because it is little, a few of the features you might find on a typical video camcorder are absent. You will not find a viewfinder on the GoPro Hero 3, along with no screen to watch or review videos and photos. It’s just a box, three small buttons, and a lens, although you can purchase an attachable LCD if you feel like it’s something you need. The Hero 3 makes up for the lack of visual image with GoPro’s smartphone app. When you pair the app to your Hero 3, you can watch what you’re filming in real-time. You’ll also have the ability to playback your videos or review your pictures. This feature is nice since it makes it easy to save anything you’ve recorded right to your smartphone album. Features You’ll discover five basic modes when you use the Hero 3 camera: photo, photo burst, video, time-lapse, and playback. You can drill further down into each of these menus for more options. For example, if you dig into the video option, you’ll see options for resolution, frame rate, and other additional settings. When comparing the GoPro Hero 3 vs 4, the GoPro Hero 3 captures still images at 12 megapixels, but that’s not the only choice you have. Photo burst mode gives you the ability to shoot 30 images per second. If you choose to use time-lapse mode, you can shoot one photo every half second, second, five seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, and 60 seconds. Use time-lapse mode for those excellent shots of snow falling or clouds rolling in. Setup Based on the perception and popularity of the GoPro Hero 3 vs 4 camcorders, you might think that getting it ready to go would be relatively straightforward. While it’s not too complicated, it’s not as easy as you would hope. The first thing you’ll notice is that the Hero 3 does not include instructions or a quick-start guide. What you will find is a card instructing you to head to the GoPro website to download the user manual for the Hero 3. Once you’ve done that, you’ll discover that you need to have a microSD card and a firmware upgrade to begin using the device. The GoPro site offers a step-by-step guide on how to update the firmware, so follow that, and you’ll be ready to go. One thing to note is that if you want to attach the Hero 3 to anything other than a flat surface, you’ll need to purchase additional accessories. Turn the Hero 3 on by pressing and holding the power button. You’ll see a red light blink and hear it beep three times. Turning it off works the same way, except you’ll hold the button down until it beeps and blinks seven times. If you want to start recording, just press the shutter button. Performance While the GoPro Hero 3 is in recording mode, three small red lights will blink slowly. One light is on the front near the power button, the second one is on the back of the camera, and the last one is on the bottom. The thinking is that you’ll see a blinking red light no matter which part of the camera is visible. Included with your Hero 3 is a wi-fi remote. With the wi-fi remote, you have the ability to retrieve a quick status update. This makes things more comfortable when you want to finish your recording or switch over to camera mode on the fly. GoPro boasts that the remote can control 50 different cameras from up to 600 feet away. One of the few drawbacks to the GoPro Hero 3 is that the Hero 3 camera doesn’t last as long as expected. Typical usage of the camcorder results in the battery lasting a little over two hours. Unfortunately, if you don’t have a backup battery, you’re just not going to get a lot of filming done on one charge. Something worth mentioning that a lot of users may not know about GoPro Hero 3 cameras is that the recorded files are massive. Recording for two-minutes in 960p quality creates half a gig file. You can use the GoPro editing software to convert them and cut down on the size, but you’re still dealing with huge files. Mobile application The GoPro smartphone app is fantastic, and chances are good you’ll enjoy it. When you connect your smartphone, you get a high-res, wide-angle extension of the Hero 3, right on your phone. With just a tap or a swipe, you can start recording, check and change your settings, or view videos and photos just shot. No products you can upload images and videos right into your phone’s album without missing a beat. You also have the features of your phone at your fingertips. Post a fun picture to your Instagram followers, or start a live feed on your Facebook account. It’s safe to say the GoPro Hero 3 mobile app is an excellent addition to the device itself. Summary If you’re considering a GoPro Hero 3, keep in mind that you won’t get any accessories with the exception of the remote. Also, remember that the camcorder is sturdy and will chew through the battery in just a few hours. Lastly, your files are going to be large, so make sure you have enough space to store them. Aside from those few drawbacks, the GoPro Hero 3 is a high-quality camera that is optimized to deliver a vivid, crisp, high-resolution image. It does this very well and is perfect for anyone on the go. If you want to capture biking, skiing, surfing, or anything along those lines, the GoPro Hero 3 is the perfect device for you. The GoPro Hero 3 is a great camcorder and does what it is meant to do very well. It won’t, however, help you land any impressive jumps or make you run faster. What it will do is help you record and make incredible videos and then share them with the rest of the world. GoPro Hero 4 The GoPro Hero 3 and 4 have a lot in common. However, the Hero 4 has the edge when it comes to many categories. It is the better device in frame rates, bit rates, resolution, and it comes with a built-in touchscreen. No products found. No products found. The touchscreen is a first for a GoPro camcorder, and it helps to make settings changes easier. It also aids in framing your shots and makes it, so you don’t have to rely on the small front screen for everything. Design You’ll notice that the GoPro Hero 4 retains a similar design scheme. The Hero 4 is a little heavier, checking in at ounces, but the chances are slim that you’ll notice the difference. Both devices are the exact same size except for the battery, and the accessories for both are interchangeable. While the pair looks similar, there are a few minor changes. The control/power button is in the same location. However, the blinking red lights have moved a bit. You’ll also find the covered compartment that houses the mini USB and HDMI ports, just like on the GoPro Hero 3. The most significant change you’ll notice when comparing the GoPro Hero 3 vs 4 is the previously mentioned touchscreen. It provides a top of the line screen quality, with vivid colors, and a responsive display. Of course, when you’re using the camcorder anywhere out of reach, the touchscreen is rendered useless. But it is nice to have the ability to see what you recorded. Features Some enhancements that you won’t notice right away are also part of the updated GoPro Hero 4. The video resolution remains the same as it was for the Hero 3, but you’ll have a new sensor on the Hero 4. One neat feature of the GoPro Hero 4 is the ability to shoot both time-lapse photos and video at the same time. The photo specifications from the GoPro Hero 3 vs 4 has improved dramatically. One example of these improvements is the low-light option offered by Hero 4. The device has two news modes, night lapse, and night photo, that are specifically intended for low-light scenes. With the low light mode, you can set up the camcorder to automatically adjust to the light conditions and change the frame rate accordingly. Another feature you’ll get with the Hero 4 is Bluetooth connectivity. You can use both Bluetooth and wifi to connect the Hero 4 to the remote that comes with the device. It will also connect to your iOS or Android device via the GoPro smartphone application. With the remote, you can control one or multiple cameras from a distance. Performance Battery life for the GoPro Hero 4 varies depending on how you use the device. Like the Hero 3, you might get around two hours of battery time. Similar to its predecessor, the Hero 4 chews up the battery quickly, but that’s to be expected with its new touchscreen LCD. If you plan on filming or capturing pictures throughout the day, be sure to pack an extra battery or two. The wifi performance is exceptional. You can use the wifi to pair your GoPro Hero 4 with your smartphone. This allows you to upload videos and photos to your phone as soon as you take them. The connection is always smooth, and there are never any issues, so it’s without a doubt a useful feature to have. Some camcorders labeled as “action cams” tend to offer a low-quality video experience. The Hero 4 bucks this trend by providing some of the best video quality you’ll see on a portable camcorder. You’ll notice vivid, vibrant colors and a crisp, clean picture. No matter when you’re shooting your video, you’ll get excellent results. You’ll also have a great experience capturing still photos with the GoPro Hero 4. The photo quality is as good as you’ll have with your smartphone camera. It’s not a fast camera, but if you really need to take some still shots, it’s a reliable option to have with you. With the GoPro Hero3 vs. 4, the Hero 4 takes a little longer to start up and shut down than its predecessor. It does, however, offer a new feature called QuickCapture. This feature allows you to wake up the camcorder and begin shooting instantly. However, when you use this mode, you’ll drain the battery very quickly. Settings Once you have your GoPro Hero 4 fully charged, you can effectively turn the device on and start recording video. The default resolution for the device is 1080p, but using it at such a high resolution will result in the battery draining quickly. You can use the front LCD to make adjustments to the Hero 4 settings as needed. It can be a bit challenging since the screen isn’t very large, and you only have three buttons with which to work. There are plenty of menus and submenus to work through, but these can be a bit confusing initially. The nice thing about the GoPro Hero 4 is that you can pretty much use it right out of the box. You’ll notice great results with the default settings. If, however, you’re a professional, or an aspiring professional, you’ll want to fine-tune the settings to fit your needs. You’ll have plenty of controls to adjust with the ability to select ISO, white balance, color, exposure compensation, shutter, and sharpness. Like the Hero 3, the GoPro Hero 4 requires a MicroSD card, and since you’ll be capturing video, you’ll need a Class 10 card. When purchasing your card, keep in mind that the highest capacity card the Hero 4 supports is 64GB. Summary The GoPro Hero 3 vs 4 are both great camcorders that have brought attention back to the camcorder industry. Traditional camcorders are not as popular as they used to be. However, the GoPro makes portable action cameras popular and trendy. GoPro has seen its fair share of challengers, but despite attempts from other manufacturers, it still remains at the top of the mountain. You’ll find many advantages with the Hero 4. It’s only for photographs and videos, so you don’t have to worry about sharing processing power with other apps. It’s small and compact, yet still delivers a great photo and video experience. Due to its tiny stature, you can take it with you almost anywhere and capture video in a wide range of places. Overall, the GoPro Hero 4 is a fun device. It’s simple and easy to use, yet offers enough settings and features that it can be as sophisticated a machine as you want it to be. When you add in a great video and photography experience, it’s easy to understand why the GoPro Hero 4 is a popular choice in the portable camcorder world. GoPro Hero 3 vs 4 As you can tell, both the GoPro Hero 3 and the Hero 4 are high-quality camcorders with a great user experience. Each device offers its own unique features and benefits while staying true to the GoPro brand. At the end of the day, it’s up to you to select the device that makes more sense for your needs. The GoPro Hero 3 vs 4 is a tough choice, but if you find that you have the need for a screen on your camcorder, then the Hero 4 is the way to go. However, if you can live with using your smartphone to view your photos and videos, then you will be fine with the Hero 3. Ultimately, the decision is yours, but you can’t go wrong choosing either the GoPro Hero 3 or the Hero 4 as your daily portable camcorder. When the GoPro Hero3+ was released a week ago, the question on everyone's mind was what improvements and updates were made to the newest member of the GoPro family. There are quite a few side-by-side comparisons of the Black Editions of the Hero3 and the Hero3+ that test the video and audio quality at different settings of both models, including low-light and SuperView. To see just how much (or little) the performance of the Hero3+ has improved, check out these videos after the jump: The Hero3+ has made some pretty significant improvements and additions with image quality and audio. The image quality is definitely better. Especially in the low-light tests, you can see that the color is less muddy in the Hero3+, with darker blacks and a sharper image overall thanks to a sharper, faster lens. Though you can reduce the curvature in post, the image takes on a more wide-angle look rather than a fisheye look with the SuperView setting, which is a welcomed change for some. You can see more, while reducing image distortion. Possibly one of the more apparent improvements is the longer battery life of the Hero3+, which lets you record for over 2 hours -- about a half hour longer than with the Hero3. The audio has improved as well. With the casing on, the sound is obviously a little degraded, but with it off, the sound is much richer than the Hero3. Users are reporting issues of freezing, glitching, and random shutdowns, though it's uncertain how widespread those problems are. In Rhino's Wi-Fi test, the range at which they were able to receive transmission was significantly less than the 600 feet GoPro advertises, but a lot of factors play into Wi-Fi performance, like your receiver's Wi-Fi capabilities, the number of devices with their Wi-Fi turned on, even the height of the GoPro. Are the changes and improvements significant enough for you, or will you be waiting for the GoPro 4? Let us know in the comments. Warto jednak porównać ją do najnowszych propozycji „czwórki”. Czy najnowsza generacja jest warta inwestycji? Czy jest rzeczywiście dużo lepsza od poprzednika? Zacząłbym od najważniejszego – od jakości video. To czym chwaliły się GoPro Hero3 to nagrywanie filmików w Ultra HD, czyli 4K. To cztery wielkości obrazu Full HD. To zdecydowanie lepiej. Hero4 Black Edition zyskało lepszą jakość, więc i wnętrze urządzenia musiało zostać podrasowano. Dopiero testy i benchmarki wykażą różnice.

(Pocket-lint) - GoPro is king when it comes to action cameras. Those little silver boxes are being put to use by daredevils and extreme sports athletes in places where normal video cameras just wouldn't survive. Capable of shooting high-quality, ultra wide-angle footage, the HD Hero3+ Black Edition is considered one of the best action cameras out there. But how does it stand when put against the latest device to come from GoPro: the HD Hero4 Black has done what it does best and announced a new action camera, chock-full of new video capabilities, features, and oomph. Is the new camera better than the HD Hero3+ Black Edition? Or is it just a modest upgrade? We have put the pair through their paces to find GoPro Hero4 Black Edition offers a max resolution of 4K at 30, 35, or 24 fps with an ultra-wide viewing angle. It also allows 4K SuperView at 25 fps with an ultra-wide viewing angle. Other resolutions available range from and 1440p80 to 1080p120 and 960p120. You probably shouldn't consider upgrading to the latest GoPro if capturing photo stills is your main concern, as both action cameras are quite similar in this claimed the GoPro Hero4 Black Edition has an improved image quality, with a 2x more powerful processor and 2x faster video frame rates (though GoPro doesn't specify which camera it is comparing the GoPro HD Hero4 Black Edition to).The company also claimed Hero4 Black is the most advanced GoPro ever. If you trust that claims and want the brawniest GoPro action camera available, then go with the GoPro Hero4 Black Edition. Pocket-lint will report back however after we conduct a full review of GoPro's latest camera (and compare it to the GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition).BatteryThe GoPro Hero4 Black Edition features a rechargeable battery. GoPro hasn't elaborated on the size or expected battery life yet. The GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition however has a 1180mAH rechargeable lithium-ion battery that is reportedly 30 per cent more long-lasting compared to GoPro Hero3: Black Edition. Until Pocket-lint learns more though, this round can't be GoPro Hero4 Black Edition features built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, whereas the GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition only features built-in Wi-Fi. You should therefore choose the GoPro HD Hero4 Black Edition (if connectivity is something that's important to you), as there are more options available to not clear yet what the GoPro Hero4 Black Edition offers in terms of storage, but it does have support for microSD. The GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition supports up to 64GB via microSD. Pocket-lint won't be able to choose a winner for this category until we learn GoPro Hero4 Black Edition features waterproofing up to 40m, HiLight Tag (allows you to mark key moments while recording and then easily playback), automatic low light that adjusts frame rates, high-performance audio, an ultra-wide angle glass lens, and selectable FOV also something new called ProTune, and it brings manual control settings for things like colour, ISO limit, and GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition features waterproofing up to 40m, automatic low light mode that adjust frame rates, sharper images with less distortion, improved audio, among other things. That's the same price in the UK as the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition, which released last played with the Hero 4 Black already we are mightily impressed with the new camera and can see that your money is better spent on the GoPro HD Hero4 Black Edition. Our full verdict is still out, but from what we've seen so far, we like the performance of the new camera a lot. We think you're better off buying new rather than old in this case. That said, if you already own the GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition and are considering upgrading, you should really think about how much you're getting for the price and how important 4k30 is to you. The GoPro Hero4 Black Edition has better video recording capabilities, connectivity, performance, and a few more features. Those bits are plenty enough to warrant an upgrade, but that also depends on your budget and whether it's worth the cost to you. Writing by Elyse Betters.
